For only being a professional wrestler for five years Tyler has risen to the top quickly! He concentrated on tag teams for years winning numerous tag team championships all over the Country. He was a heel for a long while as well, just about every where he went, until an excellent match against Nigel McGuinnessfor the ROH world title (which Black lost but looked excellent in) pretty much turned him face.
Tyler is an excellent "technical" wrestler that reminds me very much of old school World Class Wrestler Al Perez.

Not just in their "look" but in actual wrestling style, and method. Though Tyler is more prone to the wild/spotty standards of today's wrestling instead of the slow paced grounded style of Perez. This is a complimentary comparison! Al's lack of drive is the only thing that kept him from becoming a major star in the wrestling world, something Tyler clearly does not lack.
However, one thing Tyler does lack is mic skills. While he may not be considered "horrible" on the mic, he's far from great, or even good. He often seems at a loss for words and comes across slightly nervous. His look of jeans, t-shirt, and plain black baseball cap does nothing for him either. He's very "bland" looking when not in wrestling gear and just doesn't look like a world champion more often than not.
Over all though Tyler Black is a great wrestler, a great Champion, and very fun to watch in the ring (when not talking). I suspect however that he may have a short title reign compared to most ROH champions as I suspect Davey Richards to take the title off of him sometime this year. I could be wrong though, time will tell!
Next time I'll discuss Austin Aries!
